DR CHRISTOPHER O'BRIEN

Dr  O’Brien specialises in hip and knee replacement surgery. With over 15 years of dedicated service to the Bundaberg community, he has built a reputation for providing personalised and compassionate care. Dr O’Brien is committed to tailoring his approach to meet the unique needs of each patient, ensuring the best possible outcomes through patient-specific planning and meticulous surgical techniques.

Dr O’Brien completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, where he earned his Master’s degree in Orthopaedics. Following this, he undertook a fellowship in Rheumatoid Surgery, where he worked in a renowned arthritis clinic. During his fellowship, he gained invaluable experience treating patients suffering both from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Collaborating closely with Rheumatologists, he developed proficiency in the complex surgeries required to help patients maintain function and quality of life despite the debilitating effects of arthritis.

It was during this fellowship that Dr O’Brien recognised the importance of performing accurate and durable joint replacement surgeries, a principle that continues to shape his practice today. After completing his fellowship, he remained attached to the University of Pretoria, furthering his knowledge by working with leading surgeons in both England and Ireland. This experience also expanded his expertise in revision surgery, including advanced techniques such as bone impaction grafting for complicated hip revision procedures.

Since relocating to Australia in 2004, Dr O’Brien has provided high-quality care to both public and private patients. His dedication to ongoing professional development and focus on long-term outcomes has earned him the trust of his patients and colleagues alike.
